Morning of Kendrick Johnson’s Exhuming

Morning of Kendrick Johnson's Exhuming

Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress speaks privately with Johnson family attorney Chevene “C.B.” King in the middle of Oak Street outside the still-locked gates of Sunset Hills Cemetery. George Boston Rhynes, far left, out of frame, is filming for YouTube. The Johnson family has gathered, along with many supporters, in the pre-dawn inky darkness. Childress seemed frustrated. It was steamy hot and everyone had arrived prior to 6 a.m., when the gates were to open for the family and the exhuming to take place. The family were supposed to be the only people to enter the gates at that hour (regular hours open at 7 a.m. to public).
