June 14, 2013 Sunset Hills Cemetery Kendrick Johnson Body Exhumed When Gates Open at 6 a.m.

Kenneth Johnson and his daughter, Kenyetta, Jackie Johnson, and George Boston Rhynes, gathered outside Sunset Hills Cemetery, Oak Street, Valdosta, Ga. Family and supporters gathered before 6 a.m. awaiting the gates to be opened. The gates open at 7 a.m. daily, but on this Friday, the Police Chief Brian Childress, along with several police cruisers parked up on the sidewalks and blocked traffic with lights flickering, barred access to anyone at 6 a.m. – the scheduled time for the family to enter for the exhuming of Kendrick Johnson’s body for a second autopsy. Cars began lining up and Police Chief Childress grew increasingly agitated as he spoke privately with Kenneth Johnson and Johnson family attorney Chevene King.
